Cost of tests in private clinics to be reimbursed

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The expenditure incurred by patients suffering from symptoms of swine flu on diagnostic tests in private hospitals and laboratories will be reimbursed by the government.
A decision to this effect was taken by the Cabinet sub-committee on swine flu headed by Health Minister D. Nagender, at its first meeting here on Thursday. This followed the finding that patients were reluctant to undergo tests in private diagnostic centres and clinics as they were apprehensive of the cost.
The Cabinet sub-committee also resolved to conduct walk-in interviews to recruit doctors to fill the vacancies in government hospitals for effective tackling of vector-borne diseases. The meeting was attended by Ministers P. Satyanarayana (Aarogyasri), P. Sudarshan Reddy (Medical Education), J. Satyanarayana, Principal Secretary, Health, and L. V. Subrahmanyam, Secretary.
Mr. Nagender said steps would be taken to facilitate medical shops to sell face masks at lower prices. Ventilator facility would be extended to all hospitals. The Health Minister said Tamiflu tablets would be supplied to all primary health centres.
